初看garnish的兩種釋義 -- 給食品加裝飾、拘留收禁債務人的財產，实讓人有點“丈两僧人摸不著頭腦”，毫無坤係的兩種意义怎麼能體現正在一個詞身上呢?

先說garnish表现“給菜餚加裝飾”，這個我們比較常見，如：Mother garnished fish with slices of lemon.（媽媽拿檸檬片給做好的魚上减點綴。）Garnish的這層露義源於古法語詞“garniss”（防護；裝建），由此我們可找到源於统一詞根的“garment”（外套）。
